Hey here’s a good idea…let’s take a couple of weeks off during the Christmas and New Year holidays and go to Florida in our RV that we’ve only used a couple of times…with no reservations and no real plan except for probably starting off in Destin and maybe following the coast for a bit. What could go wrong? So, after spending Christmas morning with family, who graciously kept the morning’s activities brief, off we go…headed south…with no plan…
We were wheels up at about 12:45 pm, leaving our home base in western North Carolina and knew we had to cover some ground to get to a spot to overnight. We had no intentions of driving 12 hours or whatever it was straight to Destin. The only thing we were certain about was that we didn’t want to feel rushed to get anywhere. We knew about a cool little state park in Georgia that we once drove through while test-driving a used RV (please remind me to tell you about that disaster) so Keli looked it up, found a spot for us and booked it for the night. No problem…except someone decided to go and get sick just a few days before Christmas…<cough>…so I had to take a break on the drive south.
Anyway…we rolled into our site after dark, just plugged into the electricity and left it at that. It’s a fantastic little spot if you find yourself in the western middle area of Georgia. FD Roosevelt State Park in Pine Mountain, Georgia is a hidden gem. It’s not too far from main roads and it has a great little lake you can see in the photos below. We both agreed that we’d like to spend more time there (as well as most of the places we visit). The only weirdness was the site itself. It was clearly a nose-in site because of the one-way road but the electrical hook-up was past the front of the pad and almost out of reach. We had never actually measured the length of our cord but it is permanently attached and lives in a compartment in the center of the back of the RV so of course I was certain there was no way it would reach 30 or 35 feet to the pedestal…and I was exhausted…and I was sick…and grumpy.
Poor Keli. It did reach and I had to suck it up because Keli was right and I lost my bet to make dinner…
